The zine project was definitely more experimental than what I am used to. In order to make my project accessible for both viewing and recreating, I sourced content from everyday items like newspapers and magazines. I also wrote poems, copy and pasted memes, and made a tiny zine scrapbook of my dog and his friends (very cute, right?). Next, I printed the zines on colorful paper and put them each in plastic sheets so the viewer felt like opening the zine was special and the experience was unique to them.
One of the most important parts of this project is the explanation behind it. Zines are an accessible way to design because you can do it cheaply and you are able to mass- produce the design thanks to modern copiers. In making the zines, I thought about how it would be nice to create a program or show schools how students can make them. It is a nice way to encourage freedom of expression. These teeny tiny zines were fun to work on, but I think I am more typically into things that read like a true magazine. Still good to try different things, though!
